Can’t you smell the holiday cookies and hear the crinkling of wrapping paper? The holidays are around the corner and before we know it, the ball has dropped, clean up crews are pacing Times Square, we are wiping the crust from our eyes wondering how it all happened so quickly, and we find ourselves cruising at full speed right into 2017.
Do yourself a favor by thinking ahead to 2017 and taking a few actions now to position you and your company to hit the ground running in the new year. It will make that egg nog a little sweeter, the laughs a little bigger, the sleep so much better!
If you are in the business of talent … identifying them, keeping them, engaging them … then here are a few simple ways that you can set them (and ultimately you!) up for success:
1. Say Thanks
Recognition goes a long way! Something as small as a simple “Thank you” can make someone feel more valued and appreciated. Find ways for you and your team to say “Thank you” more often and remember, sincerity is a must when it comes to recognition. It you are getting stuck, do as we say here at Cerno—go for a walk outside to strum up some creativity.
If you already have a rewards and recognition program in place ask people if it feels stale. Refresh it periodically because we have yet to meet someone who feels valued when given a mechanical or insincere “Thanks.”
2. Give Them a Little Fun
Why are amusements parks, movie theaters, vacation resorts, and excursion activities such huge revenue generators? Because everyone loves to have fun! On the same token, most people want to work somewhere that has a fun company culture. Build fun into your corporate environment and carry that commitment through by rewarding your Top Talent with something fun—get them out of the office to do something physically and mentally challenging that is a breath of fresh air for them. Send them on an adventure—let them get their hands a little dirty.
3. Help Them Understand & Leverage Their Talents
Those who have earned their mark as Top Talent yearn for not only recognition but also identification and a deeper understanding of what makes them unique. They want their employers to notice that they are high-value contributors and to assist them with reaching their potential. The simple way to start is to help these stars understand their talents so they can improve their self-awareness and start seeking ways to leverage their unique set of skills and talents.
If you are in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, you can hit all three by taking advantage of Cerno’s 1-Day Retreats happening in January 2017. If registration has already closed, please check out our other events and contact us if you would like to schedule an event for your company.
